Among other luxuries, Hilton Head Island is known for a wide variety of restaurants that offer seafood, delicacies, authentic cuisine, fine wines and specialty deserts.

I have also included my favorite restaurants in Bluffton and Beaufort, South Carolina.

My list includes some of the best dining in the Lowcountry… Enjoy!!!

Rod Engard’s Favorite Hilton Head Island Restaurants

Il Carpaccio – in Pineland Station. Ask for Mauricio, the owner. He wears black – tell him we said to come by. Enjoy the atmosphere, attentive service, and incredible food. Freshly made angel hair pasta is worth having as a main course or as a side dish. Brick oven pizza’s a real treat! – 342-9949.

Charlie’s L’Etoile Verte- located on New Orleans Rd. next to Reilley’s Wine & Spirits. Notable celebrities have dined here on their visits. This little known, unadvertised French restaurant is as good as it gets! Extensive wine selection – the best Cobb Salad you’ve ever had. Lunch and dinner reservations are highly recommended. 785-9277

Santa Fe Café – located in Plantation Center just outside entrance to Palmetto Dunes. Just added roof top dining with garden bar and fireplace. Great southwestern cuisine in a very pleasant atmosphere. The salsa and chips are enough to make the trip. Fresh ingredients flown in from New Mexico daily! Lunch M-F, Dinner nightly. 785-3838.

Crazy Crab – located on the right one mile from bridge as you come onto the island. Fresh seafood, magnificent views and great for lunch, dinner, or cocktails. Great family atmosphere. 681-5021

Frankie Bones- Only Restaurant on the Island with a revolving door for its entrance. Dark Wood Panel, Steaks, Chops & Seafood. Locals hover here because all their food and service is outstanding. 682-4455. Tell Jordan (management owner) we sent you.

Hudson’s Seafood House on the Dockslocated on Hudson Road – left off Hwy 278 1.5 miles past the bridge as you come on to the island. Eat with the locals for lunch or dinner at the raw bar, waterside at the back of the restaurant. They lock the raw bar door at 6PM so get there early!. Dinner has fresh crab, shrimp, and oysters daily! 681-2772

Scott’s Fishmarket Restaurant & Bar – waterfront dining mid-island at Shelter Cove Marina, outside seating and entertainment with the best steaks on the island. Ask for Scott and tell him Rod sent you! 785-7575

Le Bistro – located in Pineland Station. A Local favorite for dinner. The setting is quaint and the food superb. Featuring fresh fish and veal with an extensive wine list. Tell Faisel we sent you. Reservations recommended 681-8425

The Boathouse Grill at Marker 13 – next door to Hudson ’s on Skull Creek. Dine in or outside while enjoying great entertainment and sunsets! Try the shrimp and grits or crispy fried flounder! 681-3663

Antonio’s – located in Wexford Village , authentic Italian and Mediterranean influence featuring French, Roman, and Morocco cuisine. Piano lounge live entertainment 7 days a week. Call for Reservations 842-5505

Bluffton does not have as many restaurants as Hilton Head but it is coming on strong.
We should know… we eat out with our clients a lot.

Mi Tierra – Mexican Delight. A lot of food and inexpensive. Lunch and Dinner. Located on Mellichamp Dr. 757-7200

The Greek Table – next to Publix on Hwy 278. From the Island turn left at traffic light at Belfair on right and Buck Island Road, 1St right and go into shopping center. Tell Angelo, wife Laura, Daughter Mary we said hello. 757-9283

May River Grill– Downtown Bluffton, HWY 46. Small but cute. Open 11:00 am – 2:00 pm for lunch and 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm for dinner. For reservations call – 757-5755

Sigler’s Rotisserie & Seafood. dinner only - Call for reservations. in Sheridan Park. In early days Chief Sigler had his Swiss Report Cards on the wall. The food is delightful and filling. 815-5030

Walnut – Serves Breakfast and Lunch only. You will swallow your tongue, it is sooooo good. In Sheridan Park in area where One Hot Mama’s is.

Myrtle’s Bar & Grill – Used to be the original Bluffton’s Post Office. All kind of goodies to eat. 757-6300

Peppers Porch – Where all the locals hang out. Shrimp, Bluffton Oyster’s and soft shelled crabs (in season) Lunch & dinner. Closed Sunday. Located at 1255 May River Road. 757-2295

Saltus River Grill - Open only for dinner and private parties. On the water at downtown city park. Relax and enjoy steaks and seafood – 802 Bay Street 379-3474

Shrimp Shack – Hilda and I go back 30 years, when she and her young children were taking orders. Now she supervises. Everything is fresh. Hilda invented the “the best” shrimp burger. No reservations…first come first served. 1925 Sea Island Parkway, St. Helena
